Judy Blue Eyes – Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Tribute featuring CSN guitarist Jeff Pevar

Portland’s finest musicians perform the songs of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young with CSN guitarist Jeff Pevar! Featuring members of Nowhere Band, Saloon Ensemble, Love Gigantic, Solovox and more! How often do you get to see and hear the music of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young live? Judy Blue Eyes is a project birthed during the lock-down. Says singer John Averill “I’ve always felt that the music of CSN – in particular the vocal harmonies – have held some kind of mystical quality for me. About 6 years ago I had the idea of diving into CSN material and dissecting the harmony parts and perform it live, but there was never the time do devote to it.” Enter 2020, when all live music stopped. Feeling the acute void of singing with other people, Averill (along with fellow Nowhere Band-mates Sarah King and Jason Wells on vocals, and David Langenes on guitar and vocals) met casually in Averill’s backyard. “After less than a dozen rehearsals scattered over a year, we realized we had learned 12 tunes. Since then we’ve begun diving into Neil Young material for a longer show.” In July of 2021 word of Judy Blue Eyes leaked out and the yet-not-completely-formed band was offered a private gig, and other members were brought in fulfill the sound. “In terms of lead guitar, the most unexpected thing happened when I was contacted by Jeff Pevar (Ray Charles, David Crosby, Joe Cocker, James Taylor, etc.). He lives in Ashland and actually plays lead guitar with CSN!, so the fact that he was available and interested blew my mind.” Rounding out the band is a stellar cast of Portland-based musicians, featuring Carl Solovox (The Nowhere Band) on keys, Ned Failing (Mexican Gunfight) on drums, Greg Hyatt (Berthaline) on bass. For fans of CSN&Y, and for those who have witnessed the vocal harmony prowess of the Nowhere Band’s Beatles (White Album Xmas, etc) shows, this is a must see/hear evening. The show will feature familiar CSN&Y favorites, as well as deep cuts for the die-hard fan. Rachel Baiman • Vivian Leva & Riley Calcagno

Originally from Chicago, Rachel Baiman moved to Nashville at eighteen, and has spent the last decade working as a musician in a wide variety of roles, from session musician (Molly Tuttle, Kelsey Waldon, Caroline Spence), to live sidewoman (Kacey Musgraves, Amy Ray), to bandmate and producer. Fiddle music was her first love, and she is known in the bluegrass and old time world for her work with progressive acoustic duo 10 String Symphony with fiddle player Christian Sedelmyer. Her first solo album Shame, was produced by Andrew Marlin of Mandolin Orange, and established her role as part of a new generation of political songwriters. Since 2017, Baiman has toured her solo project internationally with appearances at the Kilkenny Roots Festival in Ireland, the Mullum Music Festival in Australia, and the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage in Washington, DC. Vivian Leva & Riley Calcagno’s self-titled record is old-soul roots music to its core. Though both just out of college, the duo’s musical talents extend far beyond their years. Produced by GRAMMY-winning Cajun roots heavyweight Joel Savoy at his Louisiana studio, Vivian Leva & Riley Calcagno (released March 12, 2021 on Free Dirt Records) is not some soulless collection of songs imitating previous masters of American music. Rather, the pair has responded to one of the darkest eras in American history with an album of stunning breadth and originality. Alan Doyle with special guest Chris Trapper

The boy from Petty Harbour, Newfoundland, is a born explorer who carries home with him wherever he goes. Anyone who’s been observing keenly or casually over the last three decades will know Alan Doyle shifts his musical emphasis with natural ease while remaining true to the traditions of the place and people which form his artistic foundations. These truths hold on his latest release.Back to the Harbour is a folk record. Its arrangements only lightly adorned, the lyrics direct. Sometimes we are parting by circumstance or leaving by choice, or perhaps coming together by fate or reuniting by design. If one knows the canon of Great Big Sea and Alan Doyle’s solo records, there can be no mistaking his distinctive voice and steady themes. With Back to the Harbour, Doyle seamlessly introduces new elements to his range while remaining close to his cherished traditions. Always pushing the boat out a little further, ever returning to shore.
