Josh Radnor with special guest Ari Tibi
Josh Radnor is an actor, filmmaker, author, and musician. As an actor, he is best known for portraying Ted Mosby on the popular and Emmy Award–winning CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Beginning his musical career as a member of the duo Radnor and Lee with Australian artist Ben Lee, Josh released his debut solo EP in 2021, titled One More Then I’ll Let You Go, via Flower Moon Records. The songs were produced by Ryan Dilmore and praised by American Songwriter for their sincerity, “clever craftsmanship” and “certain purity.” The EP also showcased Radnor’s emotionally-rich, unassuming vocal style and talent for nuanced reflections on life in the guise of relatable, human stories. His 2023 double-debut-album, Eulogy: Volumes I + II, is comprised of twenty-three beautifully minimal, meditative, and stirring folk-Americana tracks. Portland Chicano Rocker Joshua Josué returns to the Alberta Rose Theatre with his powerful annual tribute to Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly, celebrating not only their timeless rock ’n’ roll legacy but also the official release of his new album, Broadcast to the Surf Ballroom. The project features several songs Valens and Holly left unfinished—rare home demos and incomplete sketches that Joshua has carefully restored, expanded, and fully recorded, imagining what these young pioneers might have created had their lives not been cut short. Blending authenticity with fresh energy, Joshua brings these revived tracks—along with beloved classics—to the stage for a night that honors the past while re-igniting its creative spark. On January 31, 2025, music enthusiasts will have the privilege of experiencing Joshua’s heartfelt tribute firsthand. Taking center stage, Joshua and his band will skillfully render the timeless classics of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper. From the foot-tapping rhythms of “La Bamba” to the infectious energy of “That’ll be The Day” and the soulful ballad, “Donna,” Joshua’s performance promises to be a captivating journey through the golden era of rock and roll. But the magic doesn’t stop there. In addition to the chart-toppers, Joshua will delve into the lesser-known treasures of Ritchie Valens’ repertoire, treating the audience to gems like “Ritchie’s Blues” and the enchanting “Malagueña.” These selections shine a light on the depth and versatility of the Chicano musical tradition. This is more than just a performance; it’s a celebration of rock ‘n’ roll history and the Chicano heritage, and a fusion of cultural richness and artistic expression. Through Joshua’s soulful renditions, he not only pays homage to the musical greats but also leaves an indelible mark on the tapestry of Chicano musical history.
