This Portland based supergroup was formed by Blues Music Award winning bassist and vocalist Lisa Mann at the behest of Swiss promoter Patrick Kaiser of the prestigious Groove Now concert series. Six-time BMA nominated Soul Blues artist Terrie Odabi was added to the group, lending her authentic, radiant, and unforgettable voice. A live recording was made in Basel paying tribute to the Great Women in Blues, such as Etta James, Koko Taylor, and Big Mama Thornton. The album was deftly mixed down by the band’s famed drummer and BMA winner Jimi Bott, and received global radio play and acclaim in 2025. Now this tribute to the Blues goddesses is coming to you LIVE, with an unforgettable show at Alberta Rose Theatre on Wed, April 8th. Lisa Mann on bass and vocals leads the pack, with Terrie Odabi on vocals, Jimi Bott on drums, Jason “JT” Thomas on guitar, and the one and only Louis “King Louie” Pain on organ. We’re honored to welcome Colin Meloy for a special evening of music in support of Belong Art Community, a Portland-based organization that supports adults with disabilities through inclusive housing, creative programming, and community connection. Belong is built on the belief that artists of all abilities deserve belonging, dignity, and the opportunity to live full, self-directed lives—rooted in creativity, autonomy, and mutual care. To open the night, Belong residents will share a bit about their community and sing a couple of songs, offering a glimpse into the heart of Belong and the creative spirit that brings us together. Colin Meloy is the frontman and primary songwriter for The Decemberists, the Grammy-nominated band formed in Portland in 2000. Over the past two decades, the band has released eight studio albums, most recently I’ll Be Your Girl(Capitol Records). In addition to his work with The Decemberists, Colin has toured and recorded as a solo artist and released several beloved cover EPs, including Colin Meloy Sings The Kinks, alongside interpretations of songs by Morrissey, Shirley Collins, and Sam Cooke. He is also an author and regularly shares new writing and music through his Substack, Colin Meloy’s Machine Shop. Portland singer/songwriter Anna Tivel opens the show. Morgan James is a Juilliard trained singer, songwriter, actress and recording artist in New York City. Morgan is currently on tour supporting her 6th studio album, “Soul Remains the Same”: a concept album of heavy rock tunes from the 80s and 90s through a feminine soul lens. She independently released her studio albums of original soul music, entitled Nobody’s Fool, Memphis Magnetic, and A Very Magnetic Christmas recorded to analog tape in Memphis, Tennessee. Other albums include “Reckless Abandon”, which prompted the Huffington Post to call MJ the “Brightest Breakout Artist of the Year”. In addition to her original music, Morgan co-produced and starred in an all-female concept recording of “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Morgan has taken on full album covers of the Beatles’ iconic ‘White Album’, Joni Mitchell’s “Blue”, Jeff Buckley’s “Grace”, and many more. When it comes to songwriting, less is more, and simplicity is strength. Just ask Paul Thorn, who’s spent three decades turning soulful grooves and small syllables into songs that pack a big wallop. Maybe he learned the power of minimalism from his years as a pro boxer; maybe it just comes naturally. But whether he’s targeting heads, hearts, hips or the occasional funny bone, he somehow manages to condense large nuggets of wisdom into tight little mantras, the kind embroiderers stitched onto pillows before internet memes existed. Thorn’s new album, Life is Just A Vapor, contains some beauties: “Life is a vapor, let’s live it while we can”; “tough times don’t last, but tough people do” (from “Tough Times Don’t Last”); “any mountain up ahead is just a hill” (from “Old Melodies”).
