Dylan May is a Vancouver-based singer/songwriter who has been bringing his unique brand of psychedelic funk and neo-soul to audiences far and wide for the last twenty years, from clubs up and down the West Coast to historic haunts in the heart of Dublin, Ireland. His intricate bass playing and Joycean lyrics sit at the center of grooves that are always in the pocket and on the one, showcased through performances that follow in the hyperbolic live tradition of luminaries like Prince, George Clinton and James Brown.
For the release of his second album, Honest, Dylan and his formidable funk outfit The Message will be celebrating at The Alberta Rose. This has been a labor of love for all involved, the result of a series of recording sessions with legendary producers Tony Ozier and Billy Oskay. A culmination of the many musical paths taken throughout the years, a sonic journey full of lush textures and bouncing beats, a statement of intent, purpose and activism in an era that demands nothing less.
