Alberta Rose presents a Hanukkah concert by GRAMMY-winning klezmer superstars,The Klezmatics, performing music from their 2006 album ‘Happy Joyous Hanukkah’ that include lyrics by the late Woody Guthrie. The Klezmatics are world-renowned and Grammy-winning superstars of the klezmer world. They erupted out of New York City’s East Village in 1986 and revitalized klezmer for the new century with music that is steeped in Eastern European Jewish tradition and spirituality, while incorporating contemporary themes such as human rights and anti-fundamentalism with eclectic musical influences including Arab, African, Latin and Balkan rhythms, jazz and punk. In the course of over thirty years they have released nine albums of wild, spiritual, provocative, reflective, and ecstatically danceable music, forever redefining and transcending traditional labels. Waipuna

Celebrating over 12 years at the forefront of Hawaiian contemporary music, Waipuna consistently wins Na Hōkū Hanohano (Hawai‘i’s “Grammys”) Awards every time they have a new album, from 2012 to the present, for a total 8 awards. Waipuna is an exciting collaboration of three talented individuals, all from celebrated Hawaiian musical families. Kale Hannahs is a veteran of the music scene, earning a reputation as a steady bass player and vocalist. He was a founding member of the award winning group ‘Ale’a. Matthew Kawiaola Sproat was born and raised on O‘ahu, but is from the famous Sproat family from the Big Island. In 2003 Matt won the Big Island falsetto competition, and has studied and performed with some of the best musicians in Hawaii. David Kamakahi, whose renowned father Dennis Kamakahi was one of Hawaii’s most prolific songwriters, started playing ‘ukulele at the age of 15, studying the greats, such as ‘ukulele master and mentor Eddie Kamae. Featured regularly at Maui’s renowned Slack Key Show, this group melds together the uniquely Hawaiian styles of slack key guitar, ukulele, and songs, both traditional and new. Known as Hawai‘i’s “Renaissance Man,” George Kahumoku Jr., is a master slack key guitarist, a four-time Grammy Award winner, and an accomplished songwriter. Using his very personal melodic style, inventiveness, and versatility, Kahumoku conveys the genuine spirit of Hawai‘i’ to all his listeners. Daniel Ho is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and performer, with talent and versatility on ukulele, slack key guitar, piano, and vocals. He’s a six-time Grammy winner, with four of his Grammy credits as producer of George Kahumoku’s four Grammy-winning recordings. His two other Grammy wins were for performances with his close friend, Tia Carrere. International star and two-time Grammy winner, Tia Carrere first came to fame by showcasing her considerable singing and acting chops in the film Wayne’s World.
