John Gorka

John Gorka is perhaps the quintessential iconic singer-songwriter of the 80’s folk scene. Hailing from New Jersey, but forged in the Greenwich Village Fast Folk scene, he honed his craft and persona into an unmistakable image. The shy, wry, insightful, and yes, sensitive singer-songwriter has been copied and parodied. But the old coat he wove still fits, and still suits him well. The old songs ring as true as they ever did, and the new ones are just as good. Tickets: $25 Advance$30 At the Door Vaccinated minors ok when accompanied by a parent or guardian. At the request of John Gorka, all attendees will need to provide proof of full course vaccination for entry to this event. He also requests that everyone please wear a mask while inside.
Loudon Wainwright III “Lifetime Acheivement” Album Release with special guest Tony Furtado

One of the most enduring songwriters of the last 40 years celebrates the release of his new album Lifetime Achievement,” at the Alberta Rose. Loudon Wainwright III is one of our favorites. Don’t miss this show! “I had a very romantic idea when I began that I would be dead by the time I was 25,” he admits with a smile. “Just because that sounded so cool and groovy and dangerous. I’m happy it didn’t work out that way. When I think about the fact that I’ve been doing this for half a century, it’s kind of incredible. The place I played at last night, I played fifty years ago. It’s encouraging in a funny kind of way – that it’s gone on this long and it’s still a lot of fun. The performing part of it, and the mysterious thing of getting to write a new song. After the doldrums of the past two years, I had a creative burst in the last year, and that felt good. It was something to build a record on.”With a full tour itinerary for 2022 already in place, Loudon is looking forward to taking the new songs onto the stage. Looking back on a legacy the New York Times calls “rich, complicated and often surprisingly dark,” he says, “I remember when I made my first record for Atlantic in 1969. I was always saying, ‘I want to make a voice and guitar record, and I want it to be a record – not only a recording, but a document that captures a moment.’ I was 21 and very serious, and I thought I’d be dead in four years (laughs). So I wanted to make something that would last. A testament. Now, fifty years later, I guess I still want to make a testament. I want to write a group of songs and get them down in the best possible way. And I like to think they might last a while.”Portland-based Americana treasure Tony Furtado opens the show. Tony is an evocative and soulful singer, a wide-ranging songwriter and a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist who mixes and matches sounds and styles with the flair of a master chef. All of the music of America is in Tony’s music.$30 Advance$40 At the Door$50 Preferred Seating (includes seating in the first 7 rows of the center section) Review our Health & Safety Policies HERE

David Wilcox with special guest Jean Rohe

David Wilcox is a revered folk musician with an effortless talent for spinning lyrics that quietly cut deep, crafting melodies that seamlessly ride the plot twists and turns. He observes the human condition from both the nerve center and the outside looking in. That kind of storytelling is certain to become a good friend. “For any singer-songwriter to be able to muster passion, hope and grace after 15 years in the unsung folk genre is an accomplishment, and as such, David Wilcox is infinitely accomplished.” — Paste Magazine “Factor in a strong acoustic guitar technique that eschews simplistic strumming in favor of expressive finger-picking, and a pleasant voice that sounds like a more insistent, fuller bodied James Taylor, and you have a solid solo-acoustic performer who will make his way even if he doesn’t serve ear candy.” — Los Angeles Times“The concert was an incredibly cleansing experience. Songs with passionate, beautiful lyrics sung in a soulful voice, backed by crisp acoustic guitar arrangements that took me on an emotional roller-coaster ride (I know, kind of sounds like a wine steward describing a fine Burgundy, right?)” — Kevin Nealon in Spin MagazineThe fabled singer-songwriter returns to the Alberta Rose, once again supported by the wonderful Jean Rohe. Their sound has been described as “unabashedly soulful with elements of blues and roots” by Vortex Magazine, and Good Day Oregon compares them to an impressive list of artists including Bonnie Raitt and Joss Stone. Their new album, Live It All, is their first full-length album, which they made with the help of engineer Justin Phelps (Cake, The Mars Volta) and The Hallowed Halls in Portland, Oregon. The album features the keys work of Steve Swatkins (Allen Stone, Excellent Gentleman and Steve Swatkins and the Positive Agenda) and Sydney Nash (TK & The Holy Know-Nothings) giving the band’s sound a fresh new life they are excited to release into the world. ~More About The Colin Trio~ Less of a trio and more of a triple-headed hydra roving through an alluring array of genre-blending styles, The Colin Trio is anything but typical. Named after lead singer, guitarist, pianist, Colin Hogan, listeners would be hard-pressed to name any specific member of the trio as lead. Whether it’s Colin’s knack for slipping in and out of musical eras, or bassist Brian Link’s adeptness with any groove, or drummer Cheo Larcombe’s ability to start at the flick of a match. Watching The Colin Trio perform live is akin to three improvisational masters besting one another at every turn between a cavalcade of rock, soul, jazz, funk and the blues.Working with producer Tim Karplus, their upcoming single, Breakable explores new sounds and a different approach to building a song. Judy Blue Eyes – Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Tribute – feat. CSN guitarist Jeff Pevar w/ guests Pete Muller & the Kindred Souls

Portland’s finest musicians perform the songs of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young with CSN guitarist Jeff Pevar! Featuring members of Nowhere Band, Saloon Ensemble, Love Gigantic, Solovox and more! Tonight they pay tribute to the great David Crosby, honoring his life and music. How often do you get to see and hear the music of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young live? Judy Blue Eyes is a project birthed during the lock-down. Says singer John Averill “I’ve always felt that the music of CSN – in particular the vocal harmonies – have held some kind of mystical quality for me. About 6 years ago I had the idea of diving into CSN material and dissecting the harmony parts and perform it live, but there was never the time do devote to it.” Enter 2020, when all live music stopped. Feeling the acute void of singing with other people, Averill (along with fellow Nowhere Band-mates Sarah King and Jason Wells on vocals, and David Langenes on guitar and vocals) met casually in Averill’s backyard. “After less than a dozen rehearsals scattered over a year, we realized we had learned 12 tunes. Since then we’ve begun diving into Neil Young material for a longer show.” In July of 2021 word of Judy Blue Eyes leaked out and the yet-not-completely-formed band was offered a private gig, and other members were brought in fulfill the sound. “In terms of lead guitar, the most unexpected thing happened when I was contacted by Jeff Pevar (Ray Charles, David Crosby, Joe Cocker, James Taylor, etc.). He lives in Ashland and actually plays lead guitar with CSN!, so the fact that he was available and interested blew my mind.” Rounding out the band is a stellar cast of Portland-based musicians, featuring Carl Solovox (The Nowhere Band) on keys, Ned Failing (Mexican Gunfight) on drums, Greg Hyatt (Berthaline) on bass. For fans of CSN&Y, and for those who have witnessed the vocal harmony prowess of the Nowhere Band’s Beatles (White Album Xmas, etc) shows, this is a must see/hear evening. The show will feature familiar CSN&Y favorites, as well as deep cuts for the die-hard fan.California singer-songwriter Pete Muller and his band open the show with a set of music from their brand new album, Hello Outside.
