Bergamot Burlesque presents: Legendary Burlesque featuring Judith Stein
Legendary Burlesque returns! Bergamot Burlesque is excited to bring back our beloved annual event, Legendary Burlesque, which features a living burlesque legend as the headliner. The relaunch of Legendary Burlesque is coming May 11, 2024 and will feature the Grand Beaver of Canadian Burlesque, Judith Stein. Tickets are on sale now to see this incredible performer. Judith Stein was a cash-strapped student in Eugene, Oregon in the 1970s until she finally joined the ranks of the strip tease. Starting out as a topless go-go girl, it was suggested she should become a stripper. The lure of more money, international travel and fabulous costumes was all the inducement Judith needed to fulfill her dreams. From 1973-1990 two suitcases were her home. She performed throughout Micronesia, USA, Canada, and New Zealand until finally retiring and trading the bright lights of burlesque for the Northern Lights of British Columbia, Canada. But, alas, there was no rest for the wicket as the saying goes. In 2012 Judith was rediscovered by the Burlesque Hall of Fame as the first Canadian Legend and with delight she began performing again. Judith was honored to be a subject in the film “League of Exotic Dancers” along with various podcasts, press and performances all with a side of saltiness and joy. She has also been mentoring performers with a side of truthful burlesque history. She continues to revel and reveal as the Grand Beaver of Canadian Burlesque with great delight. Lo Preciso: A Flamenco Performance by Rafael RamÃrez
Lo Preciso (which translate as “exactness” in English) is the newest contemporary Flamenco work by Spanish dancer and choreographer Rafael Ramírez. This intense solo dance work is accompanied by four musicians as a dueling quest for artistic precision and is an ecstatic call and response delivery of the masculine prowess of the genre. About the Artist: Rafael Ramírez hails from Malaga, Spain, and became a professional dancer at the age of 11 under the tutelage of such masters as “La Lupi”, Rafael Campallo, Oscar de los Reyes and Javier Barón. His steady ascent has led him to renown Flamenco festivals, including Jerez Festival, Gran Teatro Cervantes in Malaga, the Biennale of Seville and the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas (La Unión). He has performed throughout the world with the dance companies of luminaries such as Antonio Andrade, Carmen Mota, David Coria, Rafaela Carrasco and María Pagés and also took the stage at the most prestigious tablaos (flamenco venues) in Seville and Madrid. Each night on April 12th and 13th, we will feature different world-renowned “Guest of Honor” performing artists and authors, professional actors/readers, and specially-curated burlesque, boylesque, and draglesque acts chosen for our festival. And just as a library is an eclectic mix of books, our festival shall also celebrate an eclectic mix of all types of writing matched with all types of performers. Our shows are sex/body/queer positive, feminist, and inclusive to all! Come join us for one or BOTH nights of our special inaugural festival happening on April 12th and 13th at The Alberta Rose Theatre!
