Oregon Symphony presents The Lullaby Project
The Lullaby Project – conceived by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute – uses the creative process of songwriting to improve well-being and child bonds with parents experiencing housing insecurity and other challenging life situations. Since 2018, the Oregon Symphony has partnered with Path Home (formerly Portland Homeless Family Solutions), a nonprofit organization that empowers homeless families with children to get back into stable, long-term housing. Together with musicians from the Oregon Symphony and local singer-songwriters, parents and parents-to-be are creating personal lullabies for their children, expressing their dreams for the future. In the past 5 years, dozens of lullabies have been created with Path Home families, and we are honored to share this year’s songs with our community. Chamber Music Northwest presents NEW@NIGHT: “Lost Freedom: A Memory”

Following its sold-out performance at Portland Japanese Garden last season, CMNW is thrilled to share Oregon composer/violist Kenji Bunch’s and George Takei’s Lost Freedom: A Memory once again, for a larger audience. Inspired by autobiographical accounts of the incarceration of Japanese American citizens in World War II, Lost Freedom: A Memory weaves together music and spoken word in a profound exploration of a chilling time in American history. Classical and Broadway star Christòpheren Nomura narrates Takei’s story, detailing the plight of American citizens forced from their homes and incarcerated in desolate prison camps thousands of miles away. This special evening of new music and conversation will also include recent works by Steven Banks, Paul Wiancko, and Giovanni Sollima.
