Bergamot Burlesque presents: Legendary Burlesque featuring Judith Stein

Legendary Burlesque returns! Bergamot Burlesque is excited to bring back our beloved annual event, Legendary Burlesque, which features a living burlesque legend as the headliner. The relaunch of Legendary Burlesque is coming May 11, 2024 and will feature the Grand Beaver of Canadian Burlesque, Judith Stein. Tickets are on sale now to see this incredible performer. Judith Stein was a cash-strapped student in Eugene, Oregon in the 1970s until she finally joined the ranks of the strip tease. Starting out as a topless go-go girl, it was suggested she should become a stripper. The lure of more money, international travel and fabulous costumes was all the inducement Judith needed to fulfill her dreams. From 1973-1990 two suitcases were her home. She performed throughout Micronesia, USA, Canada, and New Zealand until finally retiring and trading the bright lights of burlesque for the Northern Lights of British Columbia, Canada. But, alas, there was no rest for the wicket as the saying goes. In 2012 Judith was rediscovered by the Burlesque Hall of Fame as the first Canadian Legend and with delight she began performing again. Judith was honored to be a subject in the film “League of Exotic Dancers” along with various podcasts, press and performances all with a side of saltiness and joy. She has also been mentoring performers with a side of truthful burlesque history. She continues to revel and reveal as the Grand Beaver of Canadian Burlesque with great delight. Joining Judith are a cast of fabulous performers from the PNW and beyond: *Featured Performer – Scarlet Letter (Reno)*Lacy Knightly (PDX)*Carson St. Clair (Seattle)*Pucks a’Plenty (Seattle)*Sandria Dore (PDX)*Sherwood Ryder (Seattle)*Whiskey Rick (PDX)*Angelique DeVil (PDX)*Natasha Riot (PDX)*Kate Cloud (PDX)*Simran Gleason & The Infamous Nina Nightshade (PDX) This is a ticketed event, for those 21+ with ID.  Ticket Pricing: $25 GA  Advance $35 GA  At the Door $40 VIP with Preferred Seating (first 7 rows of the center section – available presale only) ASL interpreters will be provided. Join us for an evening of legendary burlesque performances headlined by one of the women who paved the way for the rest of us and continues do so!  Review our Health & Safety Policies HERE

Live Wire with Luke Burbank

Join Emmy award-winning host Luke Burbank for the taping of Live Wire, the fastest growing entertainment show on public radio. We’ve got a late-night stride, an Oscar Wilde wit, and the charisma of Ferris Bueller grand marshaling a parade. Music, comedy, and conversation, live and packed with surprises. Featuring:R. ERIC THOMASR. Eric Thomas is the bestselling author of Here for It: Or, How to Save Your Soul in America, a Lambda Literary Award finalist, and the YA novel Kings of B’more, a Stonewall Honor book. Both books were also featured as Read with Jenna book-club picks on Today. He is also a television writer (Apple TV+’s Dickinson, FX’s Better Things), a Lambda Literary Award-winning playwright, and the long-running host of The Moth in Philadelphia. SAFIYA SINCLAIRSafiya Sinclair was born and raised in Montego Bay, Jamaica. She is the author of the memoir How to Say Babylon, the stunning story of her struggle to break free of her rigid Rastafarian upbringing, ruled by her father’s strict patriarchal views and repressive control of her childhood, to find her own voice as a woman and poet. Publisher’s Weekly calls it “a tour de force” and Kirkus Review writes that the book is “more than catharsis; this is a memoir as liberation.” NO-NO BOYNo-No Boy tells stories rooted in years of research and relationship-building, made vibrant and profound through a rich congregation of instrumental, environmental, and electronically manipulated sounds from Asia and America. The project developed as the central component of Julian Saporiti’s PhD at Brown University, drawing on years of fieldwork and research on Asian American history to write folk songs with uncommon empathy and remarkable protagonists: prisoners at Japanese American internment camps who started a jazz band, Vietnamese musicians turned on to rock ‘n’ roll by American troops, a Cambodian American painter who painted only the most beautiful landscapes of his war-torn home. Along the way he started to draw on his own family’s history, including his mother’s escape from Vietnam during the war. His 2021 album 1975 was called “a remarkably powerful and moving album,” by Folk Alley and “gentle, catchy and accessible folk songs that feel instantly familiar,” by NPR. His third album, “Empire Electric”, further examines narratives of imperialism, identity, and spirituality, and is being released by Smithsonian Folkways this fall. Tickets$30 General Admission$45 Preferred Seating (First 5 rows of Front Center Section – available in advance only) Click HERE for tickets. BACKFENCE: ROULETTE

Each show begins with a giant game show size wheel packed with juicy story prompts. One of our five seasoned storytellers is randomly drawn. To determine the random prompt for their story, they spin that giant wheel! They can play or pass their prompt (once). If they pass, another teller can steal their prompt. Then the risky part… each storyteller has only 5 minutes to come up with a true 5-minute story based on their prompt! It’s like we invented a new game called truth AND dare. The audience votes on a winner at the end of the night – both the storyteller winner and one lucky audience member win a veritable bevy of prizes! Their music experiments with gender and sexuality through self-expression, siren-esque melodies, and reverberating instrumentals. The band hopes to spread validation and happiness through sound.
