As the climate emergency worsens and biodiversity shrinks, we humans get used to it—we adapt, we normalize, we forget. Scientists call this “shifting baseline syndrome” and warn that it’s why we are increasingly sleepwalking toward disaster. In this positive and inspiring manifesto, the environmental activist and longtime editor-in-chief of Sierra magazine Jason Dove Mark offers an antidote, focusing on four simple but powerful rules that everyone can use to resist environmental amnesia: Go outside. Bear witness. Make a record. Pass it on. Mark makes the case for easy, everyday practices that can help us “remember the Earth” and support environmental conservation, restoration, and rewilding. And he shares moving examples of citizen scientists, birdwatchers, mountain climbers, and fishermen across the country who are putting them into practice. The Earth Said Remember Me: How to Revive Our Memories and Restore the Planet is a hopeful, achievable prescription for protecting the planet, one citizen at a time. Jason Dove Mark has served as editor-in-chief of Sierra and editor of Earth Island Journal. His writing has appeared in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and the Atlantic.
Altan is celebrating forty years on the road, bringing their native music to world-renowned stages such as Carnagie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, Dublin’s National Concert Hall as well as to the famous Glastonbury Festival, Tradfest Temple Bar in Dublin, and Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany. Building on this history, their latest album ‘Donegal’ was released in 2024 (Compass Records) and has received widespread positive reviews. Altan has long been at the forefront of traditional Irish music, blending the raw energy of their native Donegal-fiddle style with a rare, melodic sensibility. Being the first-ever Irish traditional band signed to a major record label, Virgin Records in 1995, The Boston Globe named them “The hottest group in the Celtic realm”. The band’s original members, lead singer and fiddler, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Ciaran Curran on bouzouki and Mark Kelly on guitar are accompanied by accordion player Martin Tourish, and their newest member, fiddler and singer, Clare Friel. Altan has shared their music and musicianship with The Chieftains, Dolly Parton, Ricky Skaggs, John Prine, and more. Embarking on their fifth decade, their commitment to Donegal’s musical heritage ensures that it will endure for generations to come. Minors ok with parent/guardian Review our venue FAQ here ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
Start the weekend off right with Johnny Wheels and the Swamp Donkeys! They are joined by legendary dummer Tony Coleman who has had an illustrious career touring the world with B.B. King, Otis Clay, Bobby Blue Bland, Johnnie Taylor, Albert King, Albert Collins, Etta James, James Cotton, Katie Webster, Z.Z. Hill, O.V. Wright and Buddy Guy. The son of a traveling bass player and singer, Johnny “Wheels” Kennicott had music in his blood since birth, but expressing himself musically took on new importance when Johnny broke his neck in a childhood accident, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. “The days of football practice after school were definitely over”, Johnny says, but music still provided an outlet for his infectious energy and his creative potential. Though his father’s instrument of choice and his early passion of playing drums were now out due to limited function, Johnny found, through determined trial and error, he could manipulate his paralyzed diaphragm to not only sing, but also blow the harmonica. Since that time, Johnny has been traveling the Pacific Northwest music scene, spreading the gospel of the blues. Although the Swamp Donkeys, including Brandon Logan and Taylor Frazier, are typically tagged as a blues band, the diversity of the members’ musical backgrounds becomes evident as the worlds of R&B, soul, jazz, funk and rock are blended under a blues umbrella. Local up-and-coming blues band Sleeper Wave opens the show. Since formation, they have performed at many local venues, and won the Cascade Blues Association Youth Journey to Memphis challenge: a strong testament to their musical talent. Minors ok with parent/guardianReview our venue FAQ here ALL SALES ARE FINAL. The album's breakout single "Boston" became a cultural touchstone, amassing over 200 million streams and earning placements in countless films and TV shows. The band followed with successful albums including Can't Love, Can't Hurt (2008) and Augustana (2011), cementing their place in the hearts of fans worldwide. Led by the distinctive voice and songwriting of Dan Layus, Augustana has always prioritized authentic connection over trends. In recent years, Layus has breathed new life into the project with innovative approaches to both recording and performing. He's released intimate reimagined versions of classic Augustana songs, explored solo material that pushes creative boundaries, and collaborated with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra to reimagine Augustana's music with lush classical and string arrangements—a testament to the depth and versatility of his songwriting. He's also launched special anniversary tour experiences where he performs beloved albums in full as stripped-down solo shows. Whether playing sold-out theaters or intimate venues, Augustana continues to evolve while honoring the emotional core that first connected with millions. Co-produced by multi-instrumental wizard Will Kimbrough (with Todd Snider and Hayes Carll), the collection pushes the acclaimed singer and songwriter’s trademark blend of vintage roots-noir into more psychedelic territory, with spacious, cinematic arrangements complementing her revelatory explorations of grief, loss, resilience, and redemption. An Idaho native, Jewell built her career the old fashioned way, touring relentlessly with the kind of undeniable live show that converts the uninitiated into instant acolytes. Over the course of nine albums, she’s crisscrossed the globe countless times and shared bills with the likes of Lucinda Williams, Loretta Lynn, Mavis Staples, Wanda Jackson, George Jones, and Emmylou Harris. Rolling Stone lauded Jewell’s “clever writing,” while NPR declared that she has a “sweet and clear voice with a killer instinct lurking beneath the shiny surface,” and The Washington Post mused that “if Neko Case, Madeleine Peyroux and Billie Holiday had a baby girl who grew up to front a rockabilly band, she’d probably sound a lot like Eilen Jewell.” Minors ok with parent/guardian Review our venue FAQ here ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
From their beginnings in mid-Sixties Ohio as a group of friends playing cover tunes to the present-day unit featuring the propulsive team of drummer Scott Thompson and bassist Jared Camic, keyboard master Randy Harper, guitar ace/vocalist Jeff Zona and Pedal Steel/Saxophonist John Heinrich, PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE continues to embellish the rich 50-plus year history of one of Country-Rock’s pioneering forces. As one reviewer recently wrote: “PPL’s sound combines sweet memories with edgy, contemporary muscle. Their vocals are as strong as Kentucky moonshine and the musicianship and performance skills are as sharp as a straight razor”. Their eponymous first album – featuring the Norman Rockwell/Saturday Evening Post cover that introduced fans to PPL’s trademark cowpoke “Sad Luke” – has been hailed as a “major early influence in the emerging popularity of Country-Rock music”. Their second effort, the multi-platinum “Bustin’ Out” brought us the Craig Fuller-penned classic “Amie”, along with other gems of the genre. With “Two Lane Highway”, nine more albums and countless shows, a legacy has been forged and enriched, highlighting contributions from several noteworthy members, including original co-founder George Ed Powell, Cincinnati’s legendary Goshorn Brothers, Country Hall of Famers Gary Burr and Vince Gill, award-winning writer Jeff Wilson (3 Top-20 singles), top Nashville session vocalist Curtis Wright, and a host of other guest appearances from Chet Atkins, Johnny Gimble, EmmyLou Harris, David Sanborn, Don Felder, Nicolette Larson, Rosemary Butler, Jenifer Wrinkle, Jeff (Birdman) Kirk, Mat Britain and many more. Now in their sixth decade, Pure Prairie League continues to lead the way for the new generation of Country/Rockers such as Keith Urban, Nickel Creek, Wilco, Counting Crows and so many others that cite PPL as a major influence. A special discount ticket for anyone named "Amie," "Amy," "Amee," or any variation thereof, is available, as we try to break the Guiness Book of World records for the most "Amie"s at a Pure Prairie League show. Minors ok when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Review our venue FAQ here ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
Celebrate Mother's Day with two heroic women of folk at Alberta Rose. Patty Larkin is a visionary of sound and wonder, a real-deal version of artistry made of equal parts guitar wizardry, vocals shot through with soul and inventive lyrics that ripple across the terrain of the heart. Described as “riveting” (Chicago Tribune), “hypnotic” (Entertainment Weekly), and a “drop-dead brilliant” performer (Performing Songwriter), Patty has captured audiences for over thirty years with an imagination, enchantment, and technical artistry that has redefined the boundaries of the guitar driven singer songwriter. With eleven studio albums and two live recordings under her belt, Patty mines the intersections of poetry and song with her innovative 14th release, Bird in a Cage, released on her own Road Narrows Records. Bird in a Cage puts poems from ten notable poets to song, including US Poet Laureates William Carlos Williams, Stanley Kunitz, Kay Ryan, Robert Pinsky and Billy Collins, for a new and haunting collection that pulses with the magic of lyricism. Poems are made to be shared aloud, and with Bird, Patty takes up that tradition and sets it aglow: her extraordinary musical shadings make each poem a star. ______________________________________________ She started out singing in Chicago folk music clubs as a teenager. Then, barely out of high school, Lucy Kaplansky took off for New York City. There she found a fertile community of songwriters and performers—Suzanne Vega, Steve Forbert, The Roches, and others. With a beautiful flair for harmony, Lucy was everyone’s favorite singing partner, but most often she found herself singing as a duo with Shawn Colvin. People envisioned big things for them; in fact, The New York Times said it was “easy to predict stardom for her.” Lucy’s second album, Flesh and Bone (1996), emphasized her development as a gifted songsmith. Then Lucy’s success took flight with back-to-back hit albums Ten Year Night (1999) and Every Single Day (2001). Both received the AFIM award (Association For Independent Music) for Best Pop Album of the year. Lucy also contributed her story to a unique book, SOLO: Women Singer- Songwriters in Their Own Words, which includes some of the best known women on the music scene today: Ani DiFranco, Shawn Colvin, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Sarah McLachlan and others. Lucy continues to tour and receive airplay both nationally and internationally. Her CD Ten Year Night is the #1 selling album of all time at Red House Records. Minors ok with parent/guardian Review our venue FAQ here ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Featured performers are Marcia Hocker, Laura Stilwell, Lenanne Sylvester Miller, Holly Resnick, Jessie Marquez, and Linda Michelet. Returning for her 6th year as emcee and 4th year as curator of Siren Nation’s annual Billie Holiday Tribute Night is Marcia Hocker. Marcia is the recipient of numerous awards including the 2018 Jazz Hero Award for the City of Portland from the nationally recognized Jazz Journalists Association. This event brings together musicians of many genres to pay tribute to one of the greatest jazz singers and songwriters of our time. Billie Holiday, also known as “Lady Day,” was an American jazz singer and songwriter. Holiday was a hugely formative influence on jazz and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo.
John Gorka is one of the most well-loved singer/songwriters in the folk community. With a career spanning 40 years and a discography of 17 solo releases, he embodies the best of folk music with his eclectic blend of folk, blues and bluegrass influences, insightful lyrics and engaging delivery. John’s career was launched in the mid-80s when he won the prestigious New Folk award at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 1984. Several years later he signed to Red House records for the release of his debut album I Know. He migrated to Windham Hill/High Street for his subsequent three releases, earning extensive critical acclaim from a variety of publications including Rolling Stone which dubbed him the preeminent male singer-songwriter of the New Folk Movement. He returned to Red House in 1998 and has since released a string of albums that have achieved folk chart-topping success. Hailing from New Jersey, but forged in the Greenwich Village Fast Folk scene, John has honed his craft and persona into an unmistakable image. The shy, wry, insightful, and yes, sensitive singer-songwriter has been copied and parodied. But the old coat he wove still fits, and still suits him well. The old songs ring as true as they ever did, and the new ones are just as good. Minors ok with parent/guardianReview our venue FAQ here ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
Award-winning vocalist, instrumentalist and songwriter Curtis Salgado is revered worldwide for his ability to wring every ounce of soul out of every song he performs. Salgado is famed not only for his powerhouse live shows and eleven albums, but also for his passionate and insightful original songs. He has been nominated three times for the Blues Music Award for Song Of The Year, winning in 2018 for "Walk A Mile In My Blues" from The Beautiful Lowdown. In 2025, he added two additional Blues Music Awards to his extensive collection, which now totals 13, including the B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year. Born in 1954, Salgado grew up in Eugene, Oregon with music all around him. After attending a Count Basie performance when he was 13 he decided that music was his calling. After getting his hands on a harmonica, Curtis began devouring the blues of Little Walter and Paul Butterfield, and taught himself to play. By his early 20s he was making a name for himself in Eugene’s bar scene, first as the vocalist/harmonica player of The Nighthawks, and later sharing lead vocals as a member of The Robert Cray Band. In 1977, comedian/actor John Belushi was in Eugene filming Animal House. During downtime, Belushi caught a typically ferocious Salgado performance and introduced himself during a break. Once Salgado started sharing some of his blues knowledge and playing old records for him, a fast friendship grew. Belushi soaked up the music like a sponge and used his new awareness to portray “Joliet” Jake Blues in The Blues Brothers, first as a skit on Saturday Night Live, then a best-selling record album (which was dedicated to Curtis) and finally as a major motion picture (Cab Calloway’s character in the film was named Curtis as an homage). Tonight, Curtis and his band celebrate the release or their latest album. Minors ok when accompanied by a parent or guardian Review our venue FAQ here ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
This Portland based supergroup was formed by Blues Music Award winning bassist and vocalist Lisa Mann at the behest of Swiss promoter Patrick Kaiser of the prestigious Groove Now concert series. Six-time BMA nominated Soul Blues artist Terrie Odabi was added to the group, lending her authentic, radiant, and unforgettable voice. A live recording was made in Basel paying tribute to the Great Women in Blues, such as Etta James, Koko Taylor, and Big Mama Thornton. The album was deftly mixed down by the band's famed drummer and BMA winner Jimi Bott, and received global radio play and acclaim in 2025. Now this tribute to the Blues goddesses is coming to you LIVE, with an unforgettable show at Alberta Rose Theatre on Wed, April 8th. Lisa Mann on bass and vocals leads the pack, with Terrie Odabi on vocals, Jimi Bott on drums, Jason "JT" Thomas on guitar, and the one and only Louis "King Louie" Pain on organ. Special guest Sonny "Smokin'" Hess joins the pack, paying tribute to the great women of Blues guitar. Stellar Portland Blues songstress LaRhonda Steele opens the show accompanied by her husband, keyboardist Mark Steele. "With vocals tapping into emotional realms beyond the reach of their peers, they project credibility as devoted interpreters of famous songs in the repertoire of Big Mama Thornton, Etta James, Koko Taylor and other 'Great Blues Women'"- Frank-John Hadley, DownBeat magazine Learn more at: https://lisamannsnwall-stars.hearnow.com/https://larhondasteele.com/ Minors ok with parent/guardian Review our venue FAQ here ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
The Back to the Barre podcast is about the popular TV show Dance Moms. The show aired on Lifetime from 2011 to 2019 and was a big hit. In 2022, Christi Lukasaik and Kelly Hyland, who were featured on the show's first season, started this series. They were friends before the show and continue to be friends. Their chemistry comes through in this podcast. The podcast isn't just a rehash of Dance Moms episodes. It provides an insider's perspective on filming the show. The hosts offer a unique perspective of the program. This puts them in a prime position to discuss the show's experiences, challenges, and wins. Both hosts are more than moms. They also had an exciting past as cheerleaders. So they use their personal experiences and perspectives to dissect the show's episodes. Back to the Barre offers more than just episode breakdowns. It also gives exclusive insider details. Former cast members offer their thoughts on wild moments. At first glance, Back to the Barre might seem to cater only to Dance Moms fans. While fans of the show will find the podcast appealing and relatable, there's more to it. The insider insights are a great bonus. But the podcast also reveals an unseen side of the world of competitive dancing. It's a world where girls strive for excellence in the spotlight, pushed by their dedicated moms. This unique view expands the podcast's audience. It's not just for the show's fans, but also for anyone who admires the pursuit of dreams. Back to the Barre evokes nostalgia. Yet it brings Dance Moms fans to the present, too. The podcast doesn't glamorize the original series. Instead, it takes listeners beyond the drama to the heart of the show. This approach respects the reality of competitive dancing and the people involved. Christi and Kelly's hosting makes this a compelling listen. Featuring 30 beloved songs, the production showcases some of Portland’s most vibrant voices, an eight-piece band, and lush five-part harmonies. The evening is elevated by special dance performances, including aerialists, lyra hoops, burlesque, and drag, creating a fully immersive, theatrical experience. Now in its eighth year and fourth year at Alberta Rose, Leather and Lace has become a Portland favorite.
When it comes to songwriting, less is more, and simplicity is strength. Just ask Paul Thorn, who’s spent three decades turning soulful grooves and small syllables into songs that pack a big wallop. Maybe he learned the power of minimalism from his years as a pro boxer; maybe it just comes naturally. But whether he’s targeting heads, hearts, hips or the occasional funny bone, he somehow manages to condense large nuggets of wisdom into tight little mantras, the kind embroiderers stitched onto pillows before internet memes existed. Thorn’s new album, Life is Just A Vapor, contains some beauties: “Life is a vapor, let’s live it while we can”; “tough times don’t last, but tough people do” (from “Tough Times Don’t Last”); “any mountain up ahead is just a hill” (from “Old Melodies”). They’re words of advice, comfort, support, encouragement, often meant to uplift, especially in times of struggle. “I like for people to be touched by music and get something from it, something that they can take with them throughout the day,” Thorn says. “Every song on this album, there's a message in it of some sort about how to live life.” Minors ok with parent/guardianReview our venue FAQ here ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
Few conservation behaviors have captured the public’s interest as much as recycling. But sorting your trash and placing it at the curb isn’t recycling . . . it’s just the start of a long and somewhat surprising journey for your empty milk cartons and back issues of Cat Fancy. Where do those materials go once in the bin? How do they get sorted out? And where do they go from there? What about those rumors that recycling trucks just deliver materials to the landfill, or dump them in the ocean? How can recycling even deliver environmental benefit, given all of the trucks and machinery involved? What’s the deal with plastic, anyway? You have questions, and we have answers! After pioneering recycling policy in the late 1980s, Oregon is now implementing the first “extended producer responsibility” law for packaging in the U.S. The Plastic Pollution and Recycling Modernization Act, adopted in 2021, was launched July 1, 2025 and is designed to provide residents and businesses a recycling system that can be trusted to deliver the environmental benefits that recycling has long promised. But even a fully modernized recycling system has limited potential to stem the tide of unsustainable levels of production and consumption. Explore how recycling is simultaneously necessary and insufficient, how recycling needs to be improved, and what else Oregon could be doing to use materials sustainably. David Allaway and Justin Gast work at the OR Department of Environmental Quality, and between them have over 57 years of experience with recycling systems. In addition to his time at DEQ, Justin has worked at the local and national levels for the likes of Resource Recycling magazine, the Washington County (OR) Solid Waste & Recycling Program and The Recycling Partnership. David has testified before Congress and co-chaired Oregon’s Recycling Steering Committee, and his work has been featured in Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the National Law Review, Time, Sierra and PBS Frontline. Minors ok when accompanied by a parent or guardianReview our venue FAQ here ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Loud, ubiquitous, and immediately recognizable, most Portlanders will see crows every day. And yet, there are few animals as mysterious and captivating. • Why are crows so intelligent, and what do they do with those big brains? • Why, if we look outside at dawn and dusk, do we see vast numbers of them all flying in the same direction? • Why do they tear out the grass in our lawns? • Why do they bring bits of food and wash it in our bird baths? • Why do they dive bomb some people? • Do they really remember human faces? And hold funerals for their fallen? In this wide-ranging exploration of the exceedingly common, and unique, American Crow, we’ll learn what makes them so fascinating and mysterious, and try to answer some of these questions along the way. Brodie Cass Talbott works at Bird Alliance of Oregon, where he has been educating both adults and kids about birds since 2018.
Have you ever looked through a foggy window and wondered what if that were your eyesight? What happens when the window of your eye becomes cloudy? The cornea—the clear front surface of the eye—plays a critical role in focusing light and allowing us to see the world sharply. But infections, injuries, genetic conditions, and aging can damage this delicate tissue, leading to blurred vision, pain, and sometimes even blindness. The remarkable news is that many of these conditions are treatable—and in some cases, surgeons can replace the damaged “window” of the eye to restore sight. Whether you have a corneal disease, know someone with vision problems, or are simply curious about how modern medicine can bring sight back, join us to learn about: How the cornea works What cause it to become cloudy or scarred How treatments work How donated tissue can restore sight Gain a deeper understanding of how damage to this tiny, transparent tissue is among the top causes of global blindness and how advances in eye care are helping people see the world clearly again. Afshan Nanji, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Casey Eye Institute at Oregon Health & Science University. She cares for patients with diseases of the cornea including infections, keratoconus, dystrophies, ocular surface cancers, and other conditions. In addition to her clinical work, she teaches future eye surgeons and conducts research to improve diagnosis and treatments for corneal disease. Minors ok when accompanied by a parent or guardianReview our venue FAQ here ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
Every winter, the amphibians of northwest Portland enter a real-life game of Frogger. Most drivers on U.S. Route 30 never notice the small, slimy critters leaping across the asphalt on rainy nights. But for northern red-legged frogs, the stakes are high—reach the water to lay their eggs, or die trying. In response to their plight, biologists are using innovative solutions to help frogs and other vulnerable wildlife cross roads. With the help of buckets and bulldozers, over a decade of conservation efforts have inspired a growing community of amphibian enthusiasts in Portland. In the summer of 2024, they broke ground on their biggest venture yet: a tunnel for frogs beneath Route 30. Less than two years later, the project is shaping up to be an early success story. Along the way, scientists are using specialized technology to document northern red-legged frog behavior and develop strategies to protect this common, yet cryptic species. Join us to learn about the challenges our amphibian neighbors face and how we can help overcome them, while gaining a glimpse into the fascinating lives of frogs. Alyson Yates is a graduate student in the School of Earth, Environment and Society at PSU and a freelance photojournalist. Led by a motivation to conserve lesser-known and misunderstood wildlife, she has embarked on adventures around the world to bridge science and storytelling.
In the 1960s, biologists introduced wolves to Coronation Island in Alaska after deer overran it and decimated the forest understory. The wolves ate all the deer and, with nothing left to eat, starved. About 50 years later, the wolves of Pleasant Island Alaska found themselves in a similar situation: living on an island in the Pacific with no deer left to eat. The wolves of Pleasant Island, however, have not died out. Instead, they’ve broadened their palate to include sea otters. What scientists don’t know is how widespread this surf-and-turf phenomenon is. How does the complex web of wolf, deer, sea otter, hundreds of islands and a massive logging industry interact? In 2024, a rescued border collie named Barley joined the investigation. Employed with K9 Conservationists, Barley is a professional scat detection dog with three field seasons under his belt. With the “understudy” dogs Tooma, Niffler, and Skipper, they have located over 1,500 wolf scats across 25 islands. Back at OSU, Kayla Fratt works to extract the DNA of the wolves and their prey from the fecal samples. She then uses cutting-edge genetic techniques, lasers shot from airplanes, and an awful lot of math to tell the story of the Tongass National Forest through the bum of a wolf. Bonus ending: This talk will conclude with a live demonstration from one of Kayla’s trained conservation detection dogs in the theater!! Kayla Fratt is a PhD student at Oregon State University and a co-founder of K9 Conservationists. She has dedicated her life to training rescue dogs to help conservation biologists.
The demands of the music of Steely Dan are high, both in technical proficiency and in preserving the sarcastic, knowing attitude originally conceived. Nearly Dan excels on both fronts, fusing together the chops of 12 diversely-talented artists (with backgrounds in jazz, rock, R&B, country, and swing) into a veritable butcher’s shop window of precisely cut bass lines; surgical, highly reminiscent guitar solos; a biting yet sophisticated horn section and richly marbled beats. Nearly Dan coolly presents their own arrangements of those masterpiece compositions such as the bouncing “Reelin’ In the Years,” the sorrowful, karmic circularity of “Do It Again,” or the funny but mortified “Peg.” Satiate your hunger for music with depth when Nearly Dan takes the stage. The 12 members of Nearly Dan have shared the stage with celebrities of world renown, such as Stevie Wonder, Sammy Davis Jr., Ray Charles, Lou Rawls, the Four Tops, the Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Johnny Mathis, Olivia Newton John, Huey Lewis, Tower Of Power, Tito Puente, Natalie Cole and Gladys Knight. “You are AMAZING!!! My mouth hurt from smiling so much throughout your entire show!!” - Francine T. “I was BLOWN AWAY. I was amazed a band could capture Steely Dan's smooth energy and sound so flawlessly. I found myself thinking after listening to Home at Last and a few other songs, "whoever manages these arrangements has to be a perfectionist”…. - Rachel J. “Saw your show last night and was absolutely blown away!!
Beloved London-born, Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Teddy Thompson has returned with the exquisitely crafted Never Be The Same, his first collection of original material since 2020. Across ten tracks, Thompson refines his craft via an exploration of music’s enduring preoccupations — love, longing, and the uneasy passage of time. This album wasn’t built upon a grand narrative. There was no self-imposed exile, no forced reinvention. Instead, it is centered around an exhortation that is threaded through the songs like a refrain: “Never Be The Same,” its title only revealing itself to Thompson after he’d completed the recording. “It’s a phrase that, unconsciously, I used twice. And when I saw it on the page, I realized, this is the message of this album,” says Thompson. “Don’t ever be the same. Change. Grow! Even when the sentiment is, woe is me, I’ll never recover after that love or loss. The message is still, change. Don’t get too comfortable. Everything is temporary, so evolve or perish!” This pull and tension between comfort and change runs quietly throughout Never Be The Same, Thompson’s 11th album, which was produced by renowned Grammy Award–winning musician/producer David Mansfield. At the core is Thompson’s longstanding commitment to songwriting as a form, inspired by early influences like Chuck Berry, Hank Williams, and Crowded House, as well as the towering figures of the craft — Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, The Beatles, and, certainly, his parents, British folk icons Richard and Linda Thompson. For Thompson, the search for this truth starts with authenticity and personal experience. “Songwriting is magical. You can hear one hundred people sing ‘I love you,’ and you know which one is telling the truth,” Thompson says. “If the root of the sentiment is authentic, it will resonate.” Minors ok when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Review our venue FAQ here ALL SALES ARE FINAL. In addition to playing in the band Drive-By Truckers, he is a solo artist. His first solo record in over a decade, Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams, was born out of a friendship with producer Chris Funk (The Decemberists). The pair would often perform together for fun and during Hood’s solo tours, making far-off plans to make a record together. They eventually went into Jackpot Studios in Portland. Many of the songs were composed on piano marking a bigger departure from his work with Drive-By Truckers than prior solo efforts. Click HERE to purchase tickets to the April 9th show. Spring 2026 Season Passes are now on sale!
Some folks are lucky to find what they love to do at an early age and quietly settle in for the long haul expanding and developing their work over the arc of a lifetime. Willy Porter is one of those artists. He has followed his own path to explore the sacred language that music truly is. 30 years after his solo recording debut, he continues to reach further into his guitar & pen while stretching the form of what his own music can be.Willy Porter continues on a musical and personal odyssey spanning over two decades, 11 albums, and multiple continents. His journey has been defined by an inquisitive love for humanity and the language that describes what we all hold to be true. Porter’s songs weave a universal perspective about the questions, struggles, and triumphs of human existence. His live shows are guitar-driven grit, soul, silence and muscle– at times electrifying, dynamic, and unique in the way that Porter’s voice blends and fuses with his fret work.A largely self-taught musician, Porter began treating audiences to his brand of guitar playing and wry storytelling in the late ‘80s while living in Madison, Wisconsin. In 1990, he released his first full-length independent album, The Trees Have Soul, and the touring life has flowed steadily ever since. Porter has literally logged millions of miles across America, Canada, the UK, and Europe, touring solo, as well as with various incarnations of the Willy Porter Band and in support of artists like Tori Amos, Paul Simon, Jethro Tull, Sting, and Jeff Beck. Minors ok with parent/guardianReview our venue FAQ here
